How to read this
Capitals mark the stressed syllable. “ew” is “ee” said with rounded lips. “ahn” and “an” are nasal vowels: say them through the nose, with no n. The recording is the reference.
In 1991 Jean-Luc Thunevin and Murielle Andraud made the first Château Valandraud, 1,291 bottles; the négoce (the merchant trade of Bordeaux) he had opened 3 years before now sells more than 2,500 wines in more than 50 countries.
The house
Jean-Luc Thunevin, trained at a bank, came to wine through trade: in 1988 he opened a wine shop in Saint-Émilion and started a négoce. In 1991 he and his wife, Murielle Andraud, made the first Château Valandraud, 1,291 bottles from 6,000 square meters of old vines, and named it for the Vallon de Fongaban and for her.
Valandraud became the wine the phrase vin de garage was named after, and the house grew with it. The wine entered the Saint-Émilion classification in 2012 directly as a Premier Grand Cru Classé and kept the rank in 2022, when the couple’s Clos Badon Thunevin was made a Grand Cru Classé. Since 2010 the négoce and its cellars have been certified ISO 9001 and 14001, and in 2015 Établissements Thunevin took the name Thunevin, under a parent company, Financière Thunevin.
In November 2025 Grégory Leymarie became managing director of Financière Thunevin. On May 27, 2026 Jean-Luc Thunevin and Murielle Andraud, who had led it since 2014, handed the chair to Soltechnic Group, a company of Bruges, north of Bordeaux, led by Jean-François Lefévère.
The house sells more than 2,500 wines in more than 50 countries, mostly from the Right Bank and including more than 20 grands crus, and produces about 700,000 bottles a year. It works in partnership with a group of Saint-Émilion estates, Sansonnet, Moulin du Cadet, Villemaurine, Fleur Cardinale and Mangot among them, and it owns Domaine Thunevin-Calvet at Maury, in the Roussillon. Some of those bottles go out under its own labels. Bad Boy, filed as a French trademark in November 2007 and joined by Bad Girl in July 2008, carries the name Robert Parker once gave its founder.
