How to read this

Capitals mark the stressed syllable. “ew” is “ee” said with rounded lips. “ahn” is a nasal vowel: say it through the nose, with no n. The French r comes from the back of the throat. The recording is the reference.

Laurent Quancard, a sworn courtier, brokers the grands crus of Bordeaux, and through Excellence Vin, which he also founded, brings wines from beyond Bordeaux to its market: 40 estates in 8 countries in 2026.

The house

The brokerage opened in Bordeaux on January 1, 2003. In 2014 the house was one of 5 brokers behind an online service that showed the stock of the châteaux in real time, to the châteaux themselves and to the négociants (merchants who buy from the châteaux and sell on). A 2nd office followed in Le Bouscat in 2015, the year Laurent Quancard set up a company of his own, LEJ Evolution, through which he has chaired the firm since February 5, 2025.

Excellence Vin, the other house he founded, is a brokerage that brings great wines from other parts of the world to La Place, the network of négociants through which the great Bordeaux estates sell. Laurent Quancard began approaching great wine families in 2009 to bring their flagship wines to the Place. The first arrived in 2010: Masseto, Solaia and Château de Beaucastel’s Hommage à Jacques Perrin. In 2016 he opened its Bordeaux office with Jérémy Quièvre, his partner and now its general manager. The first Village de la Place, where the estates show the négociants their new vintage before it goes on sale, followed in 2019. In 2026 its list carried 40 estates in 8 countries, 17 of them in Italy.
