Maison Barrière

The house

Armand and René Barrière founded Barrière Frères in 1932, and the house has worked from Ludon-Médoc, at the southern gate of the Médoc. In 1989 Azur GMF and the Japanese group Suntory took it over together. On February 1, 1990 Suntory filed the house’s name as a trademark in Japan, Barrière Frères (バリエールフレール). The house became part of Grands Millésimes de France, the company that also owns Château Beychevelle, a Fourth Growth of Saint-Julien, and Château Beaumont, at Cussac-Fort-Médoc. In 2011 a joint venture of Suntory and Castel Vins came in as the new shareholders, and the house now does the selling for the group.

The house took ISO 9001 certification in 2000, and in 2012 it became an Authorised Economic Operator, the status the European Union gives to traders whose customs work it trusts. It offers about 300 wines, the classed growths of Bordeaux among them. In 2025 it opened a warehouse of 8,000 square meters, kept at a steady temperature and humidity all year. That year Barrière Frères became Maison Barrière, keeping the name the brothers gave the house in 1932.
