The house

Philippe Tapie founded HMS, the Société du Haut Médoc Sélection, to trade in the grands crus of Bordeaux. Its historic business is wine bought and sold en primeur (sold as futures, while the wine is still in barrel), still 40% of its activity. More than 80% of its sales go abroad. A team of 6 buys from 150 suppliers and sells to 150 clients in 30 countries.

In 2008 the company, then a SARL, moved its seat to the rue d’Enghien. On December 22, 2011 it became an SAS, with Philippe Tapie as its president. In January 2013 it moved to the quai des Chartrons, the quarter of the Bordeaux merchants for more than 200 years, into one of its Dutch houses of the 17th century. Since January 24, 2018 Philippe Tapie has presided over the house through his own company, Archimède Consulting.

Philippe Tapie already chaired the grands crus commission of Bordeaux Négoce, the association of the merchant houses, when it elected him president on April 10, 2024, succeeding Lionel Chol. On July 6, 2026 the CIVB, the Bordeaux wine council, made him co-president beside the grower Bernard Farges, until July 2028. It was the first time the council had 2 presidents, a grower and a merchant.

The house has a wine of its own, a Bordeaux Supérieur of 60% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Franc and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon. It is sold as one wine under 4 labels: The Origin, The Dragon, The Artist and The Secret. The name comes from the address, 29 quai des Chartrons, and the label from the outline of the Dutch house.
